UCC donates Over a billion Shillings to Film Makers in Kampala. Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) granted UGX 1.2 billion to 14 locally scripted film and drama projects as part of their Content Development Support Program’s second cohort.
The 14 winners spanned five categories: Animations, Short Films, Features, Documentaries, and Television Dramas, each receiving grants according to their budget requirements.
Some of the projects that won include “Tying the knot”, “Wrong Bride”, “Tea Fields”, “Emwanyi”, “From Field to Fork”, “Janani” ,”A forever Home ”, “Poacher”, “Slum Bomber” and “Eva” among others.

Speaking at the awarding ceremony, Julian Mweheire, the Director for Industry and Content Development at UCC highlighted the Film Industry’s struggle due to limited funding. However, she was optimistic that with such initiatives the sector will grow and highly contribute to the country’s economy.
Sister Dominic Dipio, who led the Assessment Team urged the chosen artists to fulfill expectations and maintain the industry’s reputation.
“There is so much to hope for in this industry, which will make us all beneficiaries in the long run,” Dipio stated.
She believes these chosen projects signal a promising future for Uganda’s film industry and a beneficial outcome for all involved stakeholders.

More specifically to increase competitiveness, boost production, increase quantity and diversity of content, create employment opportunities, and build audiences for Ugandan audio-visual Content globally.
